June 11 – Busy day for the Downtown Sydney Farmers Market!

On June 11, we will be moving to our summer vending location – the old Aliant parking lot. It is located at the corner of Pitt and George, and right across the street from St. Andrew’s Hall. We will be there from now until October, rain or shine.

Also this weekend is Take a Bite out of Downtown Sydney – an outdoor food court with local restaurants from 11:30-2:00. This weekend, for one week only, we will be extending the market hours to fit in with this event, and we will be open from 11:30-4:00. Come early to make sure you get your favourite products!

June 11th is also the next event in our Sustainability Series: Chicken Run! Learn about the fascinating world of chickens and chicken-keeping. This session will offer information about the benefits of chickens and how to keep them. We will cover the basics of housing, feeding, raising from chicks or buying pullets, keeping chickens for eggs or for meat and the most common breeds available for these purposes. And rumour has it that there may be a special guest – a local hen!

Finally, this is the first week of the Green Thumb Kids Program. Each child under twelve will get a free package of heritage bean seeds and a special tomato plant to plant in their garden. they will get a grow sheet to start, and of course free technical support all summer. If they don’t eat all the profit, they can sell the excess at their own kids table at the fall.
